Platelet-Rich fibrin

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) has a high concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, platelets and stem cells. This composition stimulates collagen and stem cell renewal, leaving smoother, more youthful-looking skin. It can also be placed in the scalp to help hair growth. When placed in the desired area for regeneration, bioactive proteins or growth factor contained in platelets set to work activating stem cells and dormant skin cells or hair follicles. Improvement is seen in skin appearance and health. 

PRF and PRP are not the same and should not be confused, as often there are many clinics that offer one or both of these treatments, both respond differently.

PRF stands for Platelet-Rich Fibrin, whereas PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma.

Both treatments are individual and work differently, although the process is similar and almost the same.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) contains a high concentration of platelets, however also contains an anti-coagulant to prevent the sample from clotting. Due to this anti-coagulant, the injected PRP sample may be absorbed within 3 hours, cause additional bruising, lesson healing response and also may be painful to administer due to the increased acidity of the added anti-coagulant.

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is an entirely natural blood sample with no additives. As PRF is entirely natural and the same pH as your own blood, the discomfort is minimal when compared to PRP. PRF is separated on a slower spin cycle, allowing for the sample to also contain a heightened amount of Stem Cells and White Cells, as well as be up to 10x more concentrated than PRP. When PRF is injected, the PRF becomes a small fibrin mesh under the injected site, holding crucial Platelets, Stem Cells and Leukocytes; as there is no anti-coagulant, the injected sample may remain at the injection site for up to 3 weeks slowly releasing growth factor, promoting cellular and hair proliferation.

As this treatment is achieved using your own blood with no additives, PRF is an entirely natural treatment, with minimal risks.

PRF is a simple process taking approximately 40minutes.

First, your clinician will fully assess and educate you regarding the treatment, ensuring it is suitable for you and your needs.

Second, your blood is drawn into small vials.

Third, the vials are placed into a machine called a centrifuge, which is used to spin the vials and separate the blood sample contents in the vials.

Forth, the PRF is separated from the tubes of blood ready for injection.

Your injection sites are cleansed and prepared for treatment.

The PRF is injected into the required sites. (5-10min)

If for hair; the injected sites are then gently micro-needled to stimulate hair follicle growth and draw further circulation to the area.

Then you're all done! You can return to what you were doing as normal, and adhere to the recommended aftercare.

Your next appointment should be in 4-6 weeks, ensure you book it directly after treatment.

Ensure you are hydrated for your appointment.

Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment.

Avoid anti-inflammatories, aspirin and fish oils 48 hours prior to your appointment.

Ensure you have eaten a healthy diet, as this will optimise your overall treatment and your results given the result is based on your own body.

Organise a time that suits you where you are able to manage the downtime and aftercare appropriately. 

Avoid consuming caffeine for 2 hours prior to your appointment.

Avoid alcohol for 72 hours post treatment.

Avoid exercise for 72 hours post treatment.

Avoid lifting with the arm your blood was taken from for 24 hours.

Drink plenty of fluids and remain hydrated.

Avoid touching the treated area.

Avoid applying bruise creams or arnica to the treated area. 

Avoid anti-inflammatories, aspirin for fish oils for 48 hours post treatment. 

Paracetamol is okay.

Ice may be applied to the treated area.
